Closing the Attainment Gap: Pupil Premium Support at William Brookes School
The pupil premium is a grant given by the Government to schools in England to decrease the attainment gap for those students who are eligible for this additional funding. These students may have been identified as eligible due to family income, their entitlement to free school meals (at any time in the last six years) and/or the child may be a child looked after or formerly looked after. This investment is intended to enable schools to provide targeted support to help children reach their full potential.
At William Brookes School we are passionate about providing a nurturing and inclusive environment for our pupil premium students. Our pupil premium strategy outlines the strategic overview that the senior leadership team have over this group of students however, we also have a supportive and caring team of staff who treat each student as individuals and who work with pupil premium students every single day.
At Williams Brookes School, we employ a Pupil Premium Champion to work alongside our pupil premium families; we also employ a Maths tutor who works with our young pupil premium mathematicians at key stage 3 and 4. The allocation of pupil premium funding is overseen by the Deputy Headteacher.
We celebrate the successes of our individual pupil premium students and support them emotionally and financially to achieve their potential. We also provide bespoke pastoral support, alongside academic interventions to minimise the gap that historically exists between many pupil premium students and their peers. On a student-by-student basis, we consider the ways in which pupil premium funding might be used to provide one-off opportunities for our students or level the playing field when it comes to skills, extra-curricular opportunities and/or resources.
